What You Need To Know About Cinco De Mayo Games

Cinco de Mayo should be fun for kids, too. Why not make the day extra fun for them with some games they can enjoy? Some games can even be fun for the adults at the party, so go ahead and invite them to participate.

Break the Pinata

Everyone loves to try to break the pinata. Blindfold each participant when it is his or her turn. Slowly spin them around a few times and hand them a bat or broomstick. Point them in the general direction of the pinata and make sure no one gets in the way. Depending on how many people you have lined up to try, you may want to either use a timer or count how many tries each person gets.

Another game that is great for using up pent up energy is the Mexican hat relay. You can draw a sombrero on two different sheets of paper or you can pick up a couple of them at your local party store. Separate everyone that wants to play into two even teams. Place each team’s hat at the far end of the room. One by one, the players must race down to the hat, dance around it in a circle three times, and then race back to tag the next person. The winning team is the first one whose members have all completed the task.

Scavenger hunts can be fun. Grab some assorted items for the teams to search for that are related to Mexico in some way. You can use flags, dried chili peppers, avocados, paper sombreros, and so on. Make sure to have enough of each item for the number of teams you will have. Scavenger hunts are a great game for teaming up kids with adults. Write some clues that will provide them some ideas of where to look for each item. The first team who comes back with all the required items wins.

Make a place for the kids to color pictures. Provide lots of Mexican themed coloring sheets and markers.

Other fun things that keep kids occupied include maracas to shake, colorful hats and ponchos they can dress themselves in, and music they can play.

Everyone ought to have fun on Cinco de Mayo. Hand out amusing party favors for everyone to enjoy. Tiny pinatas, simple sombreros and maracas will add to the party’s festive mood. Throw in some CDs with salsa or mariachi music and get the crowd ready to dance the night away.

Of course, you cannot forget the food and beverages. Every party needs food! Choose some of your favorite Mexican food. If you want to keep it simple, make finger food like nachos, salsa and chips or quesadilla wedges. Provide plenty of dip for everyone to enjoy.

Authentic Cinco de Mayo recipes can be fun for all. If you want to add an air of tradition to your dishes, add peppers, corn (maize), beans and other Mexican staples that are used in Mexican cuisine. Make it easy and have fun with your friends and family.

With all the fun and games, your Cinco de Mayo party is sure to be a hit. Take the time to plan it out so everyone there has a great time. It will be worth the effort when you see your happy guests heading home, wishing the party would never end.

Southern California is a hot spot for Southwestern dining fare; hey, because it’s in the Southwest! The Mexican food in Palmdale is comparable to any you’ll find in the Los Angeles area; so don’t be afraid of disappointment, if you’re used to the more expensive alternatives. Palmdale offers numerous Mexican restaurants, however, we’ve collected a few of the most unique, not only in hopes that they’ll get more patrons, but of course, be flattered by our attention, and give us a few coupons. On a more serious note however, don’t be afraid to venture out into Palmdale, especially if you’re on vacation. Palmdale hotels might have great room service, but they can’t give you the fabulous Mexican dining options we’ve listed below.

Mi Ranchito – This is actually a small chain, possible only regional to the Palmdale area; we know of two, located at 1060 E Palmdale Blvd., and another at 47th St East and Ave. S. In customer reviews, the former is generally frowned upon because of its reputation for unfriendly and slow service. The second location is more often chosen because the staff speaks perfect English, and is friendly, as well as fast. Important qualities, considering that this restaurant, reputed to have a menu that can’t be outdone by anything in L.A., is believe it or not, categorized under ‘Mexican fast food’. Check it out, and see whether or not you consider Mi Ranchito to be great food, or just ‘fast food’.

Los Arcos Mexican Food – This little joint is located in the Rancho Vista Vons shopping center, at 3115 Rancho Vista Blvd. It’s also not to be confused with the other Mexican dining spot, El Pollo Loco. These are two different restaurants, so if you see Pollo Loco, keep going, and try the quaint Mexican Los Arcos instead. It’s a small restaurant, mostly favored by those in the local neighborhood. The best kept secret of Rancho Vista citizens no doubt. It’s received nothing short of shining reviews from customers, as well. When visiting Palmdale, if you’d rather have the quiet atmosphere of a small Mexican restaurant, try Los Arcos.

El Toreo West – El Toreo is also another chain, however, much larger than Mi Ranchito. There are six locations for El Toreo; however, the most well-known are El Toreo East, at 3025 E Avenue S # A10 and El Toreo West, at 38801 10th St W. Some have claimed that El Toreo East is better, and vice versa, however, most agree that both restaurants have excellent food, and outstanding margaritas. Some reviews suggest that El Toreo is preferable for the younger crowds, however. One adjective in particular was “sticky”, so be aware, the atmosphere may not be the quiet Mexican experience you were hoping for.

El Dorado Mexican Restaurant, Bar & Dancing – For the younger crowd, fond of the Mexican dining fare in Palmdale, there are few things better than a great Mexican restaurant that also happens to turn into a nightclub once the sun sets. The younger So-Cal tourists will find el Dorado a haven; with great, low-price drinks, a low cover charge, and ladies in free before 10 p.m.; plus, there’s take-out for those who prefer to run and eat, rather than eat, drink and dance. El Dorado’s food is also reviewed to be quite delicious, so if you’re in the area, and don’t want to drive to L.A. to experience some of the So-Cal club scene, as well as great Mexican food, try El Dorado.
