Arroz con leche is a delicious, hearty rice pudding. This thick, creamy pudding is seasoned with nutmeg and cinnamon. You may find your bowl sprinkled with almonds or walnuts. It may also have a bit of butter melted on top. This dessert is a favorite of young and old alike.

Sweet breads are another Mexican favorite. Many people love churros. These deep fried sticks of dough are sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and eaten any time. They can also be filled with a delicious vanilla custard. Maybe you would like to tray a sopapilla next. These sweet triangles of dough are fried and covered in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. The triangles are served with melted chocolate or honey for dipping. Pan Dulce are sweet rolls with a domed top. Flavored sugar is sprinkled on top. It may chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. The rolls may be flavored with anise, dried fruit, or cinnamon. Bakers sometimes decorate the shell of these rolls with designs. They make a terrific dessert or snack food.

Cookies are very popular in Mexico. They make a shortbread that is usually flavored with anise or almond extract that is delicious. Mexican wedding cookies are a common choice. They are a sugar cookie that may be flavored with almond or orange extract. These delectable cookies are sometimes shaped as moons.

Filled pastries are a common snack in Mexico. You may be familiar with empanadas. They can be filled with savory or sweet fillings. For dessert, they are often filled with fresh fruit like mango,

guava, or apple. You can also find them filled with a delicious white cheese known as queso blanco. The cheese empanadas are covered with a rich chocolate sauce. Chimichangas are another entre that transitions nicely to dessert. The flour tortilla is filled with nuts, fruit, or sweet cheese. It is then fried and covered with a custard sauce or cinnamon sugar.
