If you’ve ever gone to a restaurant and ordered a Burrito then you’ve probably noted that burritos come in many styles. You can buy a burrito with carne asada, chicken, or one with just rice and beans. However, when you are at home making your own burrito you have to use whatever you have in your refrigerator. But what if you don’t have any chicken or beef? What if the only meat you have in the refrigerator is Turkey after Thanksgiving?
Is it even legal to make it out of Turkey meat? Sure it is, and if you ask this question to a native Mexican they’d laugh at you. In Mexico they make burritos out of anything, as a matter of fact anything laying around they chop up and throw it inside of their burrito and wrap it up in flour tortilla. Perhaps, you have heard of a breakfast burrito, which are available at almost any fast food restaurant. The fast food industry in the United States did not invent the breakfast burrito.
Families in Mexico have been throwing eggs, bacon, sausages, cheese, vegetables, and just about anything they can find into their burritos for over a hundred years. So to answer the question; it is perfectly legal to make a burrito out of Turkey meat, which is left over from your Thanksgiving dinner. In fact, it makes a very good burrito, and it is even more tasty than chicken.
The only thing you have to consider is that Turkey has L-Tryptophan in it and chicken has L-Tyrosine and there is a big difference. That turkey meat will make you tired, while the chicken meat will give you more pep. So, if it is late in the evening, a Turkey Burrito could really hit the spot. However, if you are having lunch, and you have to go back to work, you should probably make your burrito out of chicken.
Personally, I am with the Mexican families, when I make a burrito at home, I look in the refrigerator and see what’s there, and whatever is there becomes part of my burrito. Please consider all this.
